Bathukamma, the vibrant floral festival of Telangana, is a celebration of devotion, nature, and womanhood. This year, Hari Hara Kshethram Temple in Georgetown, Texas, warmly invites the community to participate in the Bathukamma Celebrations 2025 Austin event on September 28, 2025.
With flowers in bloom, traditional songs echoing, and devotees gathering with deep faith, this grand celebration brings the essence of Telugu culture to life right here in Austin.
The word Bathukamma means “Mother Goddess, come alive.” The festival originated in Telangana, rooted in a legend of Goddess Gauri. According to the story:
Bathukamma is also linked with the celebration of womanhood, harvest, and gratitude to Mother Nature. Flowers like gunuka, tangedu, and marigold are offered, symbolizing purity, love, and divine energy.
Bathukamma spans nine days before Dussehra, each day with a special form dedicated to the Goddess:
Offering rice flour with sesame seeds.
Celebrated with flattened rice, jaggery, and fruits.
Offering soft-cooked lentils with jaggery.
Offering soaked rice with milk and jaggery.
Worship with rice pancakes
(atlu).
A day of rest and symbolic worship with minimal offerings.
Offering neem fruit mixed with jaggery.
Worship with butter and rice flour balls.
The final day where women prepare large Bathukammas, offer five types of rice dishes, and immerse them in water bodies.
On this auspicious day, the temple blossoms into a place of faith, flowers, and festivities, uniting the community in devotion to Devi Gauri Mata.
